The beloved and insane first-person shooter is finally making an overdue comeback, and yes, monkeys will be present.
TimeSplitters was the last multiplayer game where you’d actually invite people over to play on a single screen, rather than play over the internet where you’re safe from being punched for killing you with that damn brick yet again. Well, good news! Crytek, owner of Free Radical (the original team behind TimeSplitters) have announced that they are endorsing a new TimeSplitters game for the PC and PS4 that’s being developed by fans and members of the original developer. It’s reportedly 20% into development
TimeSplitters Rewind isn’t a brand new game as such. Rather, it’s an amalgamation of the best maps, characters, guns, and craziness of the first three games re-worked and put into a multiplayer-focused experience. These aren’t just HD re-textures either. Each map is being fully re-built in Crytek’s CryEngine 3, so you can be sure that TimeSplitters Rewind will be a feast for the eyes, as well as a monkey-filled barrel of fun.
While it can’t be called TimeSplitters 4 (there won’t be a dedicated single player), the majority of players spent most of their time in the multiplayer arenas anyway. If Crytek are able to put in the same challenge system seen in TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, Timesplitters Rewind could feel like the genuine sequel fans have been waiting for.
A playable alpha version of the game is set to be made available at the end of this year, with player feedback allowing Crytek to make changes through the remainder of the development process.
