A vast open world to explore, a gorgeous art style, a lone figure dwarfed by the scale of the landscape around him… If we didn’t know better, we’d say that Rime was the newest release from Team Ico: except it isn’t. Coming from the small indie studio, Tequila Works, Rime looks as though it seeks to satisfy the gaping void in the hearts of all those who have been waiting since 2007 for The Last Guardian, and in this new trailer we get a glimpse of just how magnificent Rime is beginning to look.
While we aren’t provided with any of Rime’s gameplay details, we’re treated to the stunning art direction of the game, and the sense of loneliness that made Ico and Shadow of the Colossus so immersive back on the PS2. It’s part Skyward Sword, part Journey, with a little sprinkling of Proteus, and it looks fantastic.
It’s not all art-style though. Judging by what we see in the trailer, it looks as though hunting may be play a part in the final game – there are wild boar running free on the fields – which may also suggest a desert island survival type scenario. Monsters will be present on the island too, as we can see in the last few seconds of the trailer when a large black silhouette, partly reminiscent of the spider monster from Limbo, rears out of the darkness to attack our un-named protagonist.
Rime is a Playstation 4 exclusive, and while there’s no set date for release, you can be sure it’ll be out before Team Ico finishes The Last Guardian.
