The sombreros have been stolen! Are you a bad enough hombre to get them back?
Free Game Friday is a new weekly article series where Wil, more commonly known as the Ron Burgundy of gaming, recommends a free game for you lovely readers to kick off the weekend with.
Sombreros is a pixel-based, top-down shooter inspired by Western movies and games. An entire town’s supply of sombreros has been stolen (those BASTARDS) and one lone gunman, Sombrerbro, has to get them back with nothing but his revolver, his manly mustache, colorful poncho and his Dead Eye-like ability that lets you freeze the game and target several enemies at once. It’s got satanic donkeys, murderous dogs, reckless drivers, hobos who give molotovs when shot and exploding chili pepper fields. You know, like all Westerns have.
It’s not a particularly long game, but it’s, as Shakespeare would put it, hard as balls. Sombrerbro dies in one hit, the bosses are challenging and the stages are packed with enemies. It’s the kind of hair-tearing difficulty where you get so mad that you want to try again.
Have you played Sombreros? If so, what do you think? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @SomeSwedishGuy.
